We are committed to not rating wines. That is totally up to you. However, we do want to tell you what wines taste like. Everyone has a unique set of taste buds, so how can we be objective? Group wisdom, my friends, group wisdom. The WINO Round Table is a wine symposium of sorts. This month, we invited a diverse group of winos over to taste various wines, take studious notes, draw pretty graphs, and then relax and finish off the rest of the wine. What we’re left with is an average of each taster’s flavor profile, and a variety of things you may pick up on when you try these wines. Have a look, and then go have a taste. This month: RM Shor, Tara Dezao, Erin Thomas, Henri Schock, Curtis R. Campbell, Josh LaRosee and Doug Haugen.

Ryan Patrick Vineyards
2005 Rock Island Red
Retails: $19.00
Blend: 57% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc

Nose:
R.M Shor: Nothing for me…
D.H.: Blackberries, a bit hot.
T.D. Smells like something I want to drink; deep and rich.
J.L. Soil, like walking through the woods and kicking up dirt. I quite like it.
E.T.: Spicey, black fruit, maybe some coco.
H.S.: Dark fruit, some toast action.
C.C.: Alcohol with a sort of “new book” smell, which I normally like.

Taste:
E.T.: Smooth, complex balance of fruit and tannins. Elegant and stylistic of a cab/merlot blends.
H.S.: Leather, spice, slightly sharp at the finish
D.H. Not much of a finish. Pretty unbalanced.
J.L.: Nice start but quickly fades. Aside from that, decent balance.
R.M.S.: Completely unbalanced; cheap thrills.
