This advanced wine course goes into detail on all the major wine regions of the world. It’s a challenging course covering aspects of grape growing, winemaking, tasting, and all the major wines and spirits in the world. We strongly recommend taking the Intermediate course prior to the Advanced, although the Intermediate is NOT a pre-requisite.

We have a large number of people from the trade taking this course, including sommeliers, wine buyers, retail staff, and wine writers. But many of the general wine enthusiasts get so hooked from the Intermediate course that they carry on to the Advanced. You will taste over 140 wines in the 15 week course

6 day course – all day from 9:30 am-5:00 pm.

The 6 day course is perfect for those who cannot commit to 15 evenings. The study materials are mailed to you in advance of the course. During this course we taste at least 104 wines. The 6 day intensive course is suited to students who already have a sound knowledge of wines and are prepared for an intensive study period.

During the wine course you will learn about:

  • Spain & Portugal
  • Eastern Europe
  • The Americas
  • Australia, New Zealand
  • South Africa & South America
  • Champagne and other sparkling wines
  • Sherry, Port and other fortified wines
  • Spirits
  • Advanced wine tasting technique
  • Viticulture
  • Vinification
  • Labeling
  • Alsace and Bordeaux
  • Burgundy and the Loire
  • The Rhone, and the south of France
  • Germany
  • Italy

The exam includes a blind tasting of 1 wine, a 50 question multiple choice paper and paper requiring 4 short answers. The pass mark is 55% in all 3 papers. We have over a 75% pass rate, but expect to study hard!

COST: $1,395.00 (includes instruction, wine and all study materials), $130.00 (Exam & WSET Certificate) – Optional

We always showcase some of the top wines of each country.

3 day course – all day from 9.30 am-5.30 pm. The 3 day course is perfect for those who cannot commit to 9 evenings. The study guide is mailed to you in advance of the course.

March 6, 2010
9:30 amto5:30 pm

This course is an introduction to wine and is perfect for beginners and those with a basic knowledge of wine.

1 day course – all day from 9.30 am-5.30 pm. The 1 day course is perfect for those who cannot commit to 4 evenings. The study booklet is mailed to you in advance of the course. We taste at least 18 wines during the day.

During the Foundation course you will learn about:

  • the main types and styles of wine
  • how to taste
  • matching food and wine
  • the characteristics of the classic grapes varieties
  • how wine is made
  • buying, cellaring and serving wine
  • local wines

You will taste some fantastic wines and experiment with wine and food matching exercises. It’s all in a fun and relaxed atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

The Foundation exam involves a multiple choice paper consisting of 30 questions and a portfolio of tasting notes (which we help you write). We have over a 95% pass rate! The exam takes place at the end of the 1 day course, and at the end of the last evening of the 4 week course. It usually takes about 30-45 minutes to complete.

It’s an awesome course – over 75% of students continue to the Intermediate.

Starter kit: You will need to purchase a starter kit, consisting of 12 ISO tasting glasses and a carry bag ($45 plus tax), EXCEPT if you are registering for a 1 day Foundation course (for this course you do not need the starter kit – we will lend you some of our glasses for the day) or you already have purchased them from us. Everyone appreciates having their own professional wine tasting glasses so you can practice at home and then bring your own glasses to the course. You will be given the kit on the first day of the course and they are yours to keep.

COST: $299.00 (includes instruction, wine and all study materials), $70.00 (Exam & WSET Certificate) – Optional
