20Something: The New Vintage
November 16, 2008 by Doug Haugen
Last night, I hung out at 20Something, a posh event thrown by the Washington Wine Commission. With over 60 wineries pouring their juice and sixteen restaurants and DJ Darek Mazzone from KEXP spinning records, the sold-out event packed Fremont Studios with over 750 young winos, tipping glasses, dancing and having a blast.
Men and women were dressed to the nines, and the place was like a huge nightclub with nothing but wine (and a little beer) on the bar menu. Tickets were $50, which was a bargain considering all the wine, food and music you get once inside.
I started out with the DeLille Cellars/Doyenne 2007 Red Mountain Roussanne. From there, it was an onslought of wines, a chance to try things I hadn’t had before. Representatives from the wineries were walking the floor with bottles in their hands, looking for empty glasses to fill, and the bar in the center of the room was a Mecca for winos.
This was the second 20Something the WWC has done. Be sure to catch the next one.
